Hardboard for technical packaging: Load protection and stability in industrial logistics
October 23 , 2026
In industrial packaging, every element must contribute to protecting goods during handling, storage and transportation. Materials used as separators or interlayers must combine strength, stability and characteristics suited to the conditions of each application.
Hardboard, thanks to its high density, mechanical strength and range of thicknesses and finishes, is a versatile solution for different load protection and separation needs.
Why use Hardboard in industrial packaging?
The choice of panel depends on the conditions of each application, but there are several particularly relevant characteristics:
- High density and strength: HTP Packaging solutions reach densities of between 900 and 1000 kg/m³, providing a rigid and strong base for different applications.
- Different surfaces: Rough surfaces help limit the movement of goods, while smooth surfaces can facilitate sliding when required by the handling process.
- Moisture resistance: The range includes solutions suitable for both dry environments and applications where there is greater exposure to moisture.
- Different thicknesses: This makes it possible to select the thickness according to the type of goods and the intended use of the panel.
Hardboard applications in logistics
Its characteristics make Hardboard suitable for different stages of goods preparation, storage and transportation.
Load interlayering and separation
Used between different levels of goods, Hardboard creates a rigid surface that helps distribute weight and keep loads separated. It is commonly used in sectors such as bottling, where products need to remain stable during handling and transportation.
Pallet protection
The panel can also be placed at the bottom or top of a pallet to create a protective layer between the goods and the pallet structure. This helps prevent direct contact with splinters, nails or irregularities that could damage the product during handling.
Applications in humid conditions
When environmental conditions are a potential risk, it is important to choose a panel with the appropiate properties. For these applications, HTP Hydro Packaging incorporates a water-repellent treatment designed for environments with greater exposure to moisture.
The HTP Packaging range
HTP Global Group offers three Hardboard solutions for packaging, with different characteristics depending on the wood source, finish and conditions of use.
- HTP Packaging BHB: manufactured in Spain using more than 90% locally sourced Galician eucalyptus, it has a density of 900 kg/m³, thicknesses from 2.5 to 6.4 mm and a rough Surface.
- HTP Packaging TDP: manufactured in France using locally sourced wood from Occitania, it has densities of 925–970 kg/m³ and is available in thicknesses from 2 mm. It is mainly intended for dry environments.
- HTP Hydro Packaging: a water-repellent solution with densities of 940–1000 kg/m³, designed for more demanding humidity conditions. It features a smooth face and a rough reverse side to adapt the surface performance to each application.
