When we talk about Hardboard, traditionally known as Tablex or high-density fiberboard (HDF), we are referring to one of the most resistant and sustainable materials in the wood panel industry. Its secret lies in the wet manufacturing process, where the wood’s own natural resin—lignin—acts as the binder. This allows for an extremely dense panel (exceeding 900 kg/m³) without the need to add synthetic glues or formaldehyde.
Ahead of August 6, the date on which new formaldehyde emission limits take effect in both the EU and China (0.062 mg/m³), our Hardboard stands out as an immediate solution for the sector. Manufactured without synthetic additives, it is exempt from this regulation under the REACH framework, with its actual emissions reaching barely 5% of the legal threshold.
However, even though the base material is the same, not all boards leaving the factory behave in the same way on the assembly line. Depending on the mechanical, aesthetic, or environmental demands of each project, different types of Hardboard are designed to address specific shop-floor needs.

Raw standard Hardboard (HTP Premium)
This is the most iconic version of the material: one completely smooth face and the reverse displaying the characteristic mesh pattern. It delivers exceptional impact resistance in very thin thicknesses and is easy to machine, die-cut, or bend. It is the ideal solution for furniture backs, drawer bottoms, or technical packaging.
Perforated Hardboard (HTP Perforated)
If your product requires ventilation or acoustic conditioning, this is the right model. It comes factory-machined with precise 5 mm or 7 mm holes. It is widely used in display boards, industrial grids, and sound-absorption systems.
Tempered and water-resistant Hardboard (HTP Tempered Premium / HTP Roofing)
Standard board can suffer under continuous exposure to moisture. To prevent water absorption and warping, this variety undergoes a thermal treatment with drying oils that classifies it into Service Class 2. It is the standard choice as a substrate for sub-roofing under tiles or in components exposed to temperature fluctuations.
Painted Hardboard (HTP Painted)
Painting panels in-house often creates a bottleneck that slows down production. This version leaves the factory coated with water-based lacquer and cured via UV radiation. The result is a smooth, scratch-resistant surface ready for assembly in multiple colors or decorative finishes.
Flexible Hardboard (HTP Flex)
Engineered specifically for components requiring tight bending radii. Thanks to its thin profile and high maleability, it molds seamlessly to curved furniture, complex geometries, or cylindrical packaging without cracking the panel’s fibers.
Specialized varieties for specific standards and functions
Beyond surface finishes, dedicated formulations exist to meet very specific regulations or industrial applications:
Biological treatment (HTP Antimould+)
Contains preservatives according to EN 335:2013 to prevent fungal growth in condensation-prone areas.
Technical underlays (HTP Flooring +)
Formulated as a rigid, indentation-resistant base under BS 8203:2017 for subfloor leveling.
Logistics solutions (HTP Packaging)
Utilizes the mesh-patterned reverse side as an anti-slip separator for transporting heavy loads.
Three keys to choosing the right Hardboard order
To ensure you select the exact specification for your next purchase order, we recommend evaluating these three aspects:
- The operating environment: If the panel will remain in a dry interior, the standard range is ideal. If it will face ambient humidity or covered outdoor exposure, always opt for tempered or anti-mold versions.
- Processing costs in the shop: If you want to save time and eliminate secondary processes in your facilities, the pre-painted range allows you to assemble the finished product as soon as the material arrives.
- Geometry and functionality: Avoid forcing the board in the shop. If you require tight curves, choose the flexible range; if you need airflow or light weight, go with the perforated option.
